This week’s pre-orders for Forge World have got you covered with the Imperial Armour Model Masterclass Volume 1 is being re-released and.
Pre-ordered as I love the last two and after flicking through this one felt a little sad that it hadn’t maintained the same level of awesome. What the HH painters excel at are tanks.
It’s marked volume one so I’ll be a bit more careful before pouncing on volume two when it comes out Infact with the internet people are really spoilt with the amount of brilliant tutorials and all. Mine is still shrink wrapped ready to look at at home. I have a couple of the Masterclass books, but find that they are OK for forgeworle read through – then just placed on the bookshelf. Both which are fantastic painting guides on all fronts.
Was tempted to order it until I saw a Video-Review of it. Thursday, January 21, Review: I recommend both highly. I got the book, and I admit its really nice.
Oh yea and they even tell you to use boltgun metal. Many of the artists have their WIP threads too so you can follow their process. If you’re still looking for a tutorial, check out the Painting Buddha video tutorials.
Having read the comments, I’m glad that I’m not the only one feeling this way as I felt a little uneasy writing negatives about the book. The first two were awesome, but this sounds disappointing: I have put this one on my birthday list to leave where the wife will see it but am considering scratching it off the list. Concerning Citadel Paints and Airbrush: I’m fodgeworld being a bit of negative Nancy as it does not compare to the previous two books.
However I tested the Salamander paint scheme they give you; and it comes out nothing like the pictures: A tutorial for great looking FW models is cool, but when there are only 3 of them and all vehiclesmasterxlass not realy interesting for me anymore.
Just got Angel Giraffes Masterclass vol 1 and it’s really good for the step by step. It is a fun book, but I don’t know ,It just got side tracked!! The images do look fantastic.
Review: Forge World Model Masterclass The Horus Heresy Volume One – Tale of Painters
It sounds like they have scrimped on the content tbh and blurry pics is pretty much unforgivable at this level. Weathering a tank was pretty good covered in Model Masterclass Vol 1. Forge World customer service, models and other work has always been amazing.
Even the weathering is a let down as for some reason they forget how to use oils and spirits. I currently prefer those ones over the Vallejo ones because they’re not so watery.
Did you try the new Citadel Air ones? Now they have their own range of paint at FW, I can see why they would now start to talk about those, and because infantry are not tanks, I can see why those figures don’t stack up as well as some on the internet. I have seen that video. And will be used on the Warlord too. I have other How-To mastsrclass that I refer to on a regular basis.
I’m revisiting this review as I’m considering painting some Imperial Fists and thanks to your screenshot, even THAT seems useless, other than the scheme reference pics – they didn’t even say which yellow they used.
Anon, don’t bother with the book. Some folks will like it, even for the photos.
The thing is I really like the book. That’s one awesome masterclass – “Paint it good! Thanks for the review – I got Horus as a christmas present from my wife and was planning to buy this book as usually the tutorials on how to paint their stuff are excellent.
