There would be a comment about something mysterious like the Shadow Moon or the Return, and i’d stop reading, tip my head back, close my eyes and try to remember if it had come up before in this book, or in Erikson’s.

Esslemont and Erikson co-created the Malazan world in the s. Having finished the original book series, I have knnives turned my eyes on Esslemont’s portion of the tale.

dsslemont This alone makes it a worthy read. For me, currently, they’re very different writers and cearly Erikson got a big head start as an author so it’s understandable that Esselmont book wouldn’t necessarily be up to parr, but equally I have heard that Esslemont gets a lot better as he goes too.

Unfortunately, in the case of the Malazan World, I feel the need to start with the previous paragraph, because the works of the two creators of this world, Steven Erikson and Ian C. Once i’d thought it through, i’d return to the book.

I loved the shadow warren parts so much it was amazing and Edgewalker is a great character. They are two different blokes after all.

The Malazan books by Eriksonare a wondrous adventure to me, and so I was excited to read Esselmont’s input to the storyline.

Night Of Knives : Ian Cameron Esslemont :

In a curious manner it reminded me nighy stylistically – of Feist’s earliest series, mixed perhaps with macabre of Robert Newcombe. Both of these characters were just ‘okay’ characters in my opinion and so even though the boo So this is the first book I’ve read by Ian Esslemont and it kind of acts as a prequel book for the Malazan book of the Fallen Series by Erikson.

I don’t know if that’s a bad thing or not, but even if I’m right, I wouldn’t take them too strongly to task for it, especially considering all the enjoyment they have already given to me. In my defence I do have the series on a shelf but just never quite got round to reading them.

Middle of the read, dead centre with just an ok-ish rating. Night of Knives should work as a great introduction to the main series, while also serving as a continuation of the prequels.

Temper is a surprising badass, and in other circumstances, I expect he would be a shield anvil. While Esslemont writing isn’t as superb as Erikson’s, he did a good job and it was nice to revisit this wonderful universe, can’t wait to continue this wonderful saga.

If you plan on taking on this series, I have to say that it would be a loss not to read the books written by ICE. Works by Steven Erikson.
